My Bio
Austin Osman Spare (30 December 1886-15 May 1956) was an Artist, Writer and Magician, who generally utilized all of his talents for further expressing his unique construction of Occult based Philosophy, which have greatly impacted modern day Occultism. During Spare's conception and creation of Magickal techniques, the majority of Occult organizations were based upon a Hermetic framework. At the time Ritual prone Magick organizations such as "The Golden Dawn" dominated the general field of Occult thought. Even Crowley's Thelema had it's roots in Hermetic Philosophy. While Spare's techniques were Non-Dogmatic, rarely Ritualistic and completely void of any prior publicly known Occult tradition. Spare, however claimed inspiration for his Occult structure from a psychic his family would often have over their house, known simply as "Mrs. Patterson." Who claimed a linage to the Witches of Salem. Introducing Spare into Sex Magick at the age of 14. Spare seemed to develop a life long fascination with Mrs. Patterson, her image being a reoccurring factor in his Art. Utilizations of techniques to bring about profound states of consciousness, or rather voidness of all manner of conscious and subconscious activity were of great significance to Spare's Magickal Philosophy. Liberating ones self from Duality, allowing one to unite with "Kia," the indescribable, primordial simplicity that transcends all form of Duality. Spare has stated the Kia which is describable is not the actual Kia, which goes beyond all forms of conception. To complement Kia was Zos, the earthly, flesh based incarnation of the human condition, still bound by Duality. As a means of bringing about ones desire by a Magickal means, the utilization of Sigils, pictorial glyphs which represent the desire of the Magician, would be noticed during an instance of mental vacuity, or voidness of all thought. This practice is of high relevance to modern day Occultism, where as the more Spiritual aspects of transcending duality are generally ignored, unless the promise of gaining ones desires are included in the package. Spare remains one of the most original and obscure Occultist's known or more suitably "unknown" to man, whose Philosophy goes beyond that of merely "causing change in conformity with will."
